Economy, WalMart, and Lesbian Murderers

The Economy, Jobs, etc.
Your Daily Prescott, is on the right track. We are having very bad economy, but nobody complained about it during Internet boom years. People who worked for WalMarts and McDonalds then were not much better off than now. It is just that some educated liberals fell for the Internet pyramid scheme, and now they cry over spilt milk.

As many conservatives, Patrick raises "the fact that the growth rate is 4.1%". Patrick, I am very happy that you got your 4.1% raise this year. Ups, sorry. I thought you meant *real* growth rate. Wall street's measurements of economy do not agree with mine. When people get fired, stocks go up. When government fires firemen and closes libraries, stocks go up. When families send equipment to the soldiers at the front because government cannot, socks go up.

On WalMart:
The main reason I do not like WalMart/McDonalds/Safeway is because they use their monopoly to pay workers minimum wage without benefits. That is bad because the minimum wage earnings get you below the powerty line. And that is bad because it breeds generations without stable homes, with poor education, with poor health, etc. And all because a couple of executives could inflate their bank account (they cannot possibly buy better food/home/car than they already have).

It is lawful for the companies to impose monopolie and rig prices - and it is legal for consumers to picket against and boycot the companies. It is lawful for the companies to intimidate and fire workers without any grounds - and for workers to form unions and go on strike. Update Mar 29: Patrick says " instead of complaining about Wal-Mart, the critics should spend a little time coming up with the replacement." I reply that instead of complaining about Wal-Mart critics, the Wal-Mart-critics critics should spend a little time coming up with the replacement for the workers."

On the murders:
Where did "hate crime" title come from? If this was a heterosexual teenage couple killing a grandmother, you would not be even reading the story. From now on I will include word 'lesbian' in all my post in order to get more readership.

You have misquoted me above.

"instead of complaining about Wal-Mart [critics], the [Wal-Mart-critics] critics should spend a little time coming up with the replacement [for the workers]."

What I actually said was:

"Someday, something will come along to replace Wal-Mart. In the mean time maybe instead of complaining about Wal-Mart, the critics should spend a little time coming up with the replacement. Find the next big thing. The next big market. I think about this stuff all the time. I’m going to find the means to my financial independence, you just watch. I’ll be like Sam Walton, except I’m from California and therefore much cooler."

In fact the whole paragraph has nothing to do with workers. I was speaking of the changes that the economy goes through and the fact that Wal-Mart might seem like a big bad destroyer of all we hold dear, but the same was said of the Sears Catalog in the 1800s and the same was said of the indoor mall in the mid-20th century.

Did you attend the BBC, LA Times, New York Times School of Journalism?

Or is that the Columbia Schol of Journalism...?

and what do you mean by:

"From now on I will include word 'lesbian' in all my post in order to get more readership."

You came and read my blog because lesbians turn you on? What do you mean?

Patrick, I did not misquote you - rather paraphrased what you said. If you say to people that they should stop complaining, then you should also stop complaining about them. Or even better, let everyone speak.

The economy is moving too fast for most of the people today. Some are lucky to be well off, some do not have the ability or energy to change their careers every five years. People should be striving to steer economy where it suits them, not letting the economy carry them downhill. Conglomeration and outsourcing are economically viable (and perhaps unavoidable) phenomena, paying workers below sustenance level is not viable in the long run, and it is avoidable.

On the issue of lesbian killers: you would not have written about the killings (let alone rant on and on) were the word "lesbian" omitted from the original article. I wish you admin you were carried away and fell into the trap the journalist's trap.

That was a not a paraphrase. There are quotes around the words indicating that it is a QUOTE. There are also brackets around words within that quote indicating that you are filling in some information that is missing when the quote is not within its original context. It is information that is elsewhere in the authtors' writing, but is not readily understandble in the quote without the bracketed information.

If you were to paraphrase you wouold nto use quotes and you would express the same thought using as much of what the author worote, but more than likely it woul dbe mostly your words conveying the author's originally intended thoughts.

What you have done is taken something I wrote out of context, replaced certain words and changed the entire meaning of what I said. I was not talking about workers. I was talking about the nature of the economy and the way it grows and changes in ways that we can not imagine or predict. I sugessted that rather than complain and lemtn the change, people should consider what that next big change will be. Have a little historical perspective. Wal-Mart wil not be around forever. Be on the cutting edge. Take aosme risks rather than imposing fear of change on to a corporation whose job it is to make it's owners and investors money. not provide jobs or offer solace in a achangign world.

My point was not about lesbians. My point was that hate crimes legislation is ridiculous. The girl obvious hated her grandmother. That is why she killed her. However, because the grandmother is not in one of the qualified categories of the people who are hated, thsi si not a "hate crime" despite the fact that it was a hateful thing do , kill her grandmother and all.
